JONES: ADMINISTRATION’S BUDGET BURDENS FUTURE GENERATIONS WITH RECORD DEBT
Budget still set to nearly triple the national debt over the next 10 years
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today U.S. Representative Walter B. Jones (R-NC) issued the following statement on the Obama Administration’s release of its fiscal year 2010 budget details. The White House announced its proposal to save $17 billion next year by eliminating or reducing 121 federal programs.
“While these proposed cuts are a positive step, $17 billion is just a modest slice – about one-half of one percent – of the bloated $3.4 trillion federal budget Congress has approved for next year. The federal budget is still large enough to nearly triple the national debt over the next 10 years. I hope these cuts are only the beginning of the Administration’s efforts to reign in spending and not just a symbolic distraction while our government continues to run deficits that lead to more and more borrowing from China, the Middle East and other foreign countries. Problems that have been caused by too much spending and too much debt simply can’t be solved by more government spending and more federal debt. It’s time our government recognizes its moral obligation to avoid passing on a mountain of debt to America’s future generations.”
